In Phase 1 we made Judy’s and Tim’s original data available to the public generally and downloadable for researchers. In Phase 2 we focused on making the data useful for individuals by adding site-wide searching of all databases, by updating much of the American data, and by adding data on whaling from Britain, France and British North America.
Phase 3 could be about making WhalingHistory data useful for educators, exhibition planners and others at the two museums. Or, Phase 3 could focus on helping visitors learn about whaling history using the data on the website and on providing more analysis tools and examples to inspire their explorations. Or, Phase 3 could concentrate on broadening the resources available on the site by cultivating new data sources and connecting more artifacts to data records.
